I seem to recall seeing somewhere a high (140lbs+?) recommended torque setting for the 1932 LaSalle 345B.  This seems very high, does anyone have the details for the factory recommended setting?  Super thanks.  Steve

I do not believe that torque wrenches were commonly used before about 1940.

You might be thinking about hub nuts or something larger.
When there's no published torque values, then best to refer to the SAE values.
See below.  For 1/2" about 75 ft-lbs is right.  Value I use on my trailers.
Invented earlier, but not in common use as previously noted.

Alan is correct. They didn't use torque wrenches. Pops said the general rule of thumb was that the length of the wrench determined how tight you made it:-)  I have always just tightened them across the diameter until they feel right...like how they were before I took them off. You can feel the tension. 75 - 80 should be fine. It is important to get the wheel on the hub correctly so it flush before tightening.
