Well everyone I finally did it, after years of looking and countless posts to you good people I have FINALLY purchased my first classic Cadillac.
You don't say what it is you wish to do with the car. Are you looking for a good shop to
do a full restoration? Or, are you looking for somebody to do a partial rebuild -- or looking
for a good source for parts or..........??
Let us know and we'll be better equipped to advise you.
A full, body off resto is an expensive proposition going well into 6 figures for a car like a '59
Caddy. Before you rush into anything, give it quite a bit of thought, decide how you want
to use the car afterwards and of course, double-check your pocketbook. There is a big
$$$ difference between making a car a "nice driver" vs. a 100 point show car.
Also, don't be stuck on the idea that the firm you deal with has to be next to you in New
York -- the cost of transportation will be a minor consideration compared to what the
restoration will cost. For example, FEN is not a cheap place to deal with and they would not
be my first choice.
Mike
Welcome to the wonderful world of '59 ownership. Nothing quite like a '59 on a sunny afternoon, whether its on empty two lane blacktop or in a parking lot full of star-struck kids. I second everything Mike says about restoration. Do your homework. I'm in CA and I'm not familiar with "Doc Sab." Do you know where in CA he is?
I agree with Mike's comments about FEN. To say the least, they have had their problems.
Geoff N.
Here is a long list of vendors that may have things you need. There is no "one stop shop" for everything for your car.
For mechanical parts, don't be afraid to start with NAPA, Auto Zone, O'Reilly's, etc. Lot's of stuff is still available brand new, off the shelf like fuel pumps, thermostats, hoses, etc.
Perhaps one of the moderators can permanently post this list at the top of the Technical section for quick reference by all? Walter? Bruce? Bueller? Bueller? Bueller?

Forrest:
A very impressive list to be sure. However, I don't think it should be posted as you suggest
until you (or someone) add some remarks as to what these people specialize in. That will
save some "newby" quite a bit of time. Most of these people I know -- but many other
folks may not.
For example, Klaus Wojak in North Carolina only rebuilds or furnishes parts for vacuum
radio antennas -- that's all he does. That is the type of info that needs to be noted in any
such list before it's posted as a member resource.
Mike
I agree. Let's get people to do that. I don't know them all either but I can add what I know and add information that others provide.
We can stick it to the top with a request for people to add to it and list specialties.

Mike,
Klaus does more than just vacuum antennas. And he does do great work!

Thanks Fins
As far as I know, he only does electric motors. But to absolutely sure, a phone call or email is in order.

I've added a couple new sources. This will also help keep this at the top for now. I'm going to formulate a coherent suggestion to the administrators to see how we can hav a list like this permanently posted at this site - even if it's in a whole new category.
Terrill Machine Otto. Fantastic source for all moving engine components, and really great service helping people and shipping anywhere in the world.
Hi Frank
I just finished restoring a 59 Cadillac Convertible from the ground up and can help you on your car as far as where to get stuff and how to do things. I just started driving it around after showing it in June at the Grand National where it received 1st place in the primary division and I must say it is a really nice car to drive. I am really enjoying it.
Try to post some pictures of your car.
Steve
That's beautiful. Yellow is my favorite color and I'll take a Coupe de Ville over an Eldorado any day.

The only pics I have so far are the ones I took while looking at it, the pic is to big to post. As soon as I figure out how to lower the quality I will post one.
Frank, Email it to me and Ill post it as large as life, if it gets to me large of course.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the panel with the radio and speaker seems to be from a 1960 I think...??
The radio itself is correct for 1959; that's why the bezel of the dial does not fit properly to the curve of the panel.
Compare it with the dash of my '59 below.
Feiko
Hi fnoti,
That's just what I do; going through the car for many years, changing and fixing things. I bought mine in 1995 and I still have many years to go. It will also never be a showcar though.
About your dash; I think the upper dash of your car was torn (like so many of these years), and that a previous owner found a nice '60 upper dash. These are almost identical to '59, except that the radio panel does not fit. So, if you replace the '59 upper dash with a '60, you will also have to replace the radio panel.
Your steering wheel is a '59, and as far as I can see in this picture, also your instrument cluster is '59.
B.t.w., I also notice the speedo cable hanging under the dash; guess your speedometer does not work?
Feiko

That's great. it would probably look good with black fenders.
