I'm just wondering if anyone has converted 1947 to power steering and disc brakes? If so what did you use. This might get kicked to the modified chapter if so I understand. I just thought I'd ask here first. I would like to convert it to power steering and disc brakes so my daughters can drive it safely and with ease. Just wondering what any of you have done?
Thanks
Andy

I have a 47 coupe.
I bought it with GM power steering...looks like a 1970s system. Whoever did it, they used the original steering column.

Another way that is just as good is EZ electric power steering. It takes some mods of the original column but works really well. You'll need to convert the car to 12 V.
Better headlights!

I have EZ systems on my 48 Packard and 49 Buick.

How about the column shifter, how do you deal with that?

Was the column shifter transferred to floor shifter with the electric steering conversion?  I was told that was the only way to do it since the rod is enclosed in the original column and would have to be cut.  Thanks in advance for the responses.

I still think (as I expressed before in another thread elsewhere) that a quick call to someone like Flaming River, 440-826-4488, would answer and settle the question about the shifter without the hearsay and "a friend said", once and for all.  My 1950 Packard has an external shifter rod alongside the steering column so I don't anticipate a problem there should I decide to go with electric power steering.

Here is what EPAS said....

Thanks Andy,

I have a 1947 Cadillac fastback at home as well. Is the shifting linkage external to the column, or internal? If it is internal, our current system cannot be used, as you will be sectioning the column to insert the electric motor.

But they have come up with a solution...

Well, the short answer is yes, we do. The long answer is, we have spent the last 3 years prototyping, researching and developing an electro/hydraulic system which solves everyone's steering issues. However, that system just debuted at SEMA earlier this month and won't be available until at least the 2nd quarter, 2023. The vehicle would still need to be 12 volt to utilize the system. That may be the way you need to go on this project.
