66 cad calais 429  po told me the guy before him gutted everything but the bare bones to run the engine. I pulled the alternator off to have tested and  belt alignment was off. I noticed the arm was tweaked and stack of washers and bottom bolt don't look right anyone have a pic of the top and bottom alt brackets so i can see if i'm missing anything.

One possible explanation is its not the correct alternator.   Many of the GM alternators over the years are very similar but not quite identical for mounting.   It could be something like someone put on a later higher amp unit that needed those washers to sort of fit.

A 66 would have been the original GM externally regulated unit.   The 2 pin plug on those stuck out the back.  The internal regulated ones that came out around 73 had the connector sticking out side.

This alt has the male plug that would go into it. Even tho the plug is no longer and there is just  2 spade connectors that were plug into it.
They removed all the s/c stuff so i'm not sure if that has anything to do with it.
Now to fig why the gen light is on. battery and alt tested good.

Did a 66 have a smog pump?   In later years they aligned and arranged the belts so you could not just simply take the belt off the smog pump, if you did you would also loose something else that was kinda important.  Maybe spacer washers was a way to re align the belts without the smog pump if it had one?
