Good afternoon
I just bought my first LaSalle today. I've been waiting many years for this day. I anyone able to help me identify more specific info about this particular car? The VIN is listed as 4320254

Thanks

harry s

Welcome to the forum. According to the number you post your car is a 1940 LaSalle 52 Series. If you will post the data plate on the firewall under the hood maybe we can further decode or identify your car and match the engine to the car. Another way to do that is to match the engine number with the frame number. I'm not of it's location on your year car but am sure there are others on here that can.     Harry

Awesome! Thank you so much. Once the car arrives home I will be able to get those numbers.

Correction
I received this information today. The tag on the frame reads

Style 40-5219
Body 167
Trim 53
Paint 13
Body by fisher

Style number 40-5219 is year, model/four door
Trim #53 is Grey/Green Bedford Cord Two Tone
Paint #13 is Chicory Green Iridescent above the beltline and Evergreen Iridescent below with Chicory Green wheels.
Sounds like a sharp looking car. Show us some pictures when you get a chance.   Harry

Thank you so much! Any good advice on parts suppliers? Mostly interior and trim stuff.

Hello Daniel, Here is more general information on 1940 Lasalles. The interiors of all 1940 Lasalles and Cadillac series 60 and 62 were either gray or tan. Yours is gray. There were 2 series of Lasalles that year, 50 and 52. They had the same front end styling but were built on different GM body shells. Front sheet metal is not interchangeable. Your Lasalle is a 52 series and it shares body shells with the following cars:
1940 Pontiac 8 Torpedo
1940 Oldsmobile Custom 8 Cruiser
1940 Buick 8 Super
1940 Buick 8 Roadmaster
1940 Cadillac series 62
Some of these may have used the same body shell for 1941 also.

The vin number on your car is in two places quoting from the shop manual "On the crankcase just behind the left cylinder block, parallel to the dash, and on the left frame side bar opposite the steering gear." If the two numbers match the your engine is original. The number on the frame is the actual vin number if the engine has been changed. There is another number (a series of letters and numbers) on the same surface on the engine. That is called the engine unit number and has no meaning.

The body number on your car, 167, means it is the 167th 52 series 4 door sedan to be made in the 1940 model year. Your serial number/vin number, 4320254, is an early vin number. The sequence started at 4320000. Your car was made very early in the model year, probably the first week.
total 1940 Lasalles 50 and 52 series: 24,130.
total 1940 Lasalles 52 series:        13,750.
total 1940 Lasalles 5219 4 door sedans: 10,181.

Be more specific about what parts you need and we will offer suggestions. Also we like pictures.

Nice photo setup. Keep us informed. Bismarck, Mo. is close to S-F Boy Scout Ranch on 67. Many fond memories of time spent there as a kid.

Thank you. Yes, my nephew just spent a week there scouting as well. We are getting started right away. I've ordered the 12v kit and a new wiring harness, lights and manuals.

I will be looking for some interior and trim pieces. Any suggestions as to companies?
