Found among the loose electrical parts for my -51.
Could it be a resistor in an early 12v conversion?
Mounted close to batteri. Can't find on any pics
or diagram.

There's some letter on the side that would give some clues that are not discernable from that view.   I have my guess, but can not say without all the info.
I suspect it's aftermarket.

As you mentioned in pm, battery heater probably seems to be the answer, found holes in firewall behind battery tray that looks to fit, have not ever heard about such thing til now. Car has history in Anderson, Indiana, extremely cold there??

Can't figure out purpose of these clips? By the dash fasteners.

59-in-pieces

Johan,

Are the threads in the hole good - or loose or shot.

JUST A WILD GUESS - What does the other side of the clip look like, removed from the dash.
If threads are bad and clip has either a tube with threads inside, or an open circle with 2 jagged spikes or a half circle with a cupped edge - lots of designs, but each is used to screw a bolt into and hold it in place without a nut.

Good luck,

Have fun,

Those are called "U-nuts."  Like 59 said, they provide threads.

No, you see it all. No threads. Threads are in the body, underneath.
You can see the head of screw holding it.

The Tassie Devil(le)

That is definitely a new one on me.

Has anything been cut from the bottom of the piece?

Maybe it's just a spacer? From your last picture, I see a second one.

Yes, one for each dash fastener, but spacer that thin felt strange, probably is the case though.

Somebody help me understand? That the dip stick tube is broken I get. But the direction? Meant to be bent correctly?

You'll have to push it out from the inside. Its orientation is correct. The new tube will have to be inserted from the engine's exterior side.

Yes, absolutely but I realize now the pic is not that good. The tube goes straight towards the cap and dip stick cannot pass it without some bending.

I quote myself, thats cool. Maybe thats just what it should do. The cap bends the dip stick right where it should be?

On my cars from the fifties, the dip stick usually strikes something before it's completely in. Don't worry about that!

Won't hurt to bend the new tube a little for better alignment.  That is exactly what you have to do with the 472/500/425 engines before you put the pan on.  There is a so-so picture of the proper tube alignment for those engines in my '73 shop manual.  Goes without saying, I guess, but just be sure the dipstick itself clears the rotating assembly when you are done and before the pan goes on.
