I am looking for either the replaceable screen that served as a filter or the screen material to make one for a 1955 Eldorado convertible.  Thank you.

It's typically, 300-400 mesh brass wire cloth.   It's difficult to measure the factory material without a magnifier or something to count the openings/per inch
You can try the parts places; Fatsco, northwest, autotran, antiquetransmissions, etc. or call a local trans shop and see if they have any screen.  Or you can order online.   You only need a few square inches and probably have to buy a minimum.  Try the old ploy and ask for a free 1 sq ft sample.
Stainless is OK, just more expensive.
Then you have to carefully open the intake housing and replace the cloth, and recrimp.
