I grew up in Western New York. Snow and ice and the use of road salt because of Winter conditions was the reason for the demise of 98% of these Cars. My Mother had a '66 Calais 4 door hardtop purchased in '67, a '68 DeVille Convertible purchased in '69 and a '71 Eldorado Convertible purchased in '73 and each of these cars were reduced to junk by trade in time due to road salt. Holes thru the body , rusted chrome , rusted and pitted white metal pieces , stainless trim falling off due to rusted clip fasteners and rock solid white stained carpets from shoes loaded with salt. Five years was about it before the junk yard maybe seven. The shortest lives were Cars parked each night in a heated garage ( most Cadillac's then ) as the salt would work it's destruction nightly. Also most people did not realize that small deposts of salt laying in nooks and crannies once winter was over would activate with each rainfall or Car washing. In short salt turned them into rot boxes quickly. They piloted thru the snow real well but it was certain death, they were crushed by the thousands years ago.

My '73 Eldo will never see snow if I can help it, but I always wondered how well it would do in deep snow and/or icy roads.  Same with my '66 Corvair, which would probably do way excellent donuts!

I can't wait to get my '72 Eldo into some snow to see how she performs.   But, sadly, here whenever snow falls, they close the roads.

The Eldorados are FANTASTIC on snow covered roads-- can't be stopped, save for over  bumper height accumulations. I commuted 90 miles a day in the north country... and having all that weight over the front wheels made these cars nearly impossible to lose traction. I recall feeling somewhat embarrassed by easily climbing hills while others were stuck.  Great pictures all-- thanks so much.

These are couple of years old.  I took 615 out on Feb. day which was cold and "dry" to run a few errands.  Heaters, front and rear work well.

David, I think these are my favorite pictures as it shows a vintage Cadillac being used in the modern day in the snow without fear!!!!  KUDOS.......now I am sure there was some concern, but that is awesome to see.......

I have had a horrible weekend with the snow--- We haven't had any.  We had a little last week and they salted the roads.  We just had a weekend in the 60's, but I haven't driven because of all the salt dust on the roads......... Can you believe it, 60+ and sunny on a February weekend, and my car is just sitting there.  Ugh!!
