Does the EFI fuel pump for the 76 Eldorado come with the fuel sending unit and look like this?  If not does someone have a picture and part number?

Thanks,

Dennis

Seems like I have read this stuff is pretty hard to find these days but I also think I remember reading that are EFI group here was testing a more modern and easier to find single pump setup.    Hopefully those guys will be along soon to update how that testing was going.

The original #25000917 is no longer available . I replaced the pump in my '76 sedan with a Carter p74012 . This is listed to suit 77-78 models but seeing the tanks are the same 76-78 there wasn't a problem.
They are for sale on Ebay .

Yes that was my delima, good to know someone has tried other pumps and I assume they are working with no issues.   I really appreciate your passing this info along Phil, it eases my anxiety and these days I don't need any extra anxiety.

How that I know there is replacements it's full speed ahead.  You and TJ made my day.

Cheers!

Good to hear, there are new replacements available.  Understand,
an exact replacement is a low pressure pump, to be used in the
original 2 pump system.

A few owners have experimented with using a high pressure, in
tank pump, but this is apparently not an off-the-shelf item at
this time.  The one I tried is not big enough for a 500 engine.

Bruce,
The one linked on eBay doesn't seem to say if it's a low pressure pump but it's a short height pump and looks "identical" to the one in the photo Dennis posted. By short I mean half the height of what I'm accustom to seeing for today's single in-tank pumps.

Is our existing fuel pressure regulator able to deal with the pressure output of common EFI pumps of today (normally 60psig system of today versus our ~40psig system)?  I haven't taken my Cadillac regulator apart but is it simply a spring operated bypass regulator with a vacuum adjusted "trim" (fine tune)? It seems if it's a spring operated pressure relief it would work.

I recently installed an EFI system on my Chevelle. It's a single pump system. I investigated quite a bit to familiarize myself with what's out there especially with pumps and sending units. I found one "ready" option for in-tank regulators but the regulators were for 60psig systems and not ~40psig. In my case I ended up using an external Aeromotive regulator and a return line (already existing in the case of the '76 Dennis is working on). I created a pressure test gauge with an air coupling quick connect, plus ball valve for shut-off, which made it very easy to check the system dry for leaks and as well as for adjusting the Aeromotive regulator.

I had to essentially build my own sending unit for the Chevelle but I was really happy with the results. My biggest issue was the sending unit head was probably the smallest I've ever seen.

I was just making sure all parts were available and getting a guestimate of what it is going to cost before going ahead with the purchase.  Well the good news is yesterday I now own her so the next step is locating the fuel injection seals and fuel pump and other parts while I am waiting to bring her home.  She will be running by spring with tons of elbow grease Big Fins.

The pump might be capable of 60psi, but that will only occur
if flow is somewhat restricted.  The Cad regulator will allow extra
flow back to th tank, limiting pressure.  The objective of the system,
is to maintain 39psi across the injector input/outout.  So if manifold
absolute pressure drops 2psi (vacuum), the regulator will drop to
37psi per its manifold vacuum input.

Now there are systems with no return line.  They regulate pump
voltage to achieve pressure regulation.  Probably a lot more
efficient, using more electronics instead of brute force.  Bruce Roe

Thanks man, I appreciate that.  Once I found out that the parts were available I was all in.  Beats having to fly somewhere to look at a car, maybe buying it maybe not and pay shipping fees when this is right in my back yard.  This way by doing and having the work done I know what's been done.  Kinda nice they are from the same herd too and has the factory parade boot.  I like the Western Cyclone I wheels too.  I have two sets of the Western's II verson, one set is going on the 78 Biarritz and the 77 Eldo is going to keep the yellow matching hubcaps for all different looks.

Cheers!
