Hi, I'm new to the forums and just starting to assemble a bit of a car collection with my Dad.  Anyway I was hoping someone could help decode some info on this 1955 caddy tag.  I'll take any info at all.  I have done some research and it seems silver is the original color.. but specifically the A after the trim code is a mystery for me... as well as Top 6.  I thought Eldorados only had trim codes 1 and 2 for tops... black or white?  Thank you in advance for any help.  I will attach an image of the tag but just in case i will list the codes below.

Style No. 55-6267SX
Body No. FW 3923
Trim no 90        A <---what does this a mean?
Paint no 92
Top 6
Acc. E-H-Y

Sincerely, K. Adams

The code in question refers to the color scheme family.  It was used at assembly time for line workers to know what color trim and accessories items should be placed on the car.

By way of example, for my car, the gear shift knob is gray.  When the person responsible for this part of the assembly saw the "R" on the data plate, he knew to install gray colored accessories/trim.  Assuming this is accurate, all cars that came off the line with a gray color scheme would have an "R" code.  Other cars would have other letter codes.

I do not have a listing of all the codes.

Thanks Dave.  I still don't totally get it but I'm learning.  It seems to me that the color code is silver and the trim code means it black leather with white trim...I think.

But the top 6 still strikes me as very strange... And I don't know what to make of it.

This correct: trim 90 is black and white leather and paint 92 is for silver. I don't know what the top code 6 means; even in 1956 there is no "6".

Roger is correct.  This I seem to remember has come up before.  There was no code "6" for a
convertible top color in 1955 or 1956.

Question:  Is that the original data plate you show in the picture or perhaps a reproduction?
There is a guy who reproduces those and that looks like some of his work.  He relies on getting the
information for the tag from the owner, so if you gave him a "code 6" for the top color, that's what
you would get.  Maybe a previous owner did that?  Just an idea.

Otherwise I have no explanation.

Mike
