Hello all, recently I purchased the '78 Seville pictured below on Ebay, you may have seen the listing.  The person I hired to ship the car to me has apparently stolen it.  They are no longer in communication with me or the web site through which the arrangements were made (uship).  It was a single-car enclosed hauler, the route should have taken them from north of Indianapolis to Memphis. Their last communication said they were in Bowling Green, KY, but I was never sent information to verify if that was true.  The VIN is 6S69B8Q466157 and it has an easily recognizable dent in the trunklid as seen below.  I am in possession of the title.

Shot in the dark but if anyone happens to come across the car somewhere, please let me know.  This is a cautionary tale about being careful who you hire to ship, I feel silly for not doing more due diligence on my own.  Lulled into complacency by too many successful previous trips. Also be VERY careful about using uship, they do NOT vet the drivers using their site. I relied on that far more than I should have and they have been zero help in trying to track these people down. It is now a police matter.

Sorry if this post breaks any forum rules, just trying to get the word out. 47B8260F-EC1F-457A-9A8D-C427DB4D4205.jpg Thanks5836A946-0C8F-4D9D-A251-FF3FBDC322A8.jpg

Seems like a useful community minded post to me. Will be on the look out for this as well as any information regarding it. Sorry to hear about this. We got to get tougher on crime in general so that it is not attractive to those contemplating such. I know a couple of collectors of Cadillacs of this era and model and will let them know. Clay/Lexi

I handle a lot of cargo theft claims (which includes cars) and assume the car was "PROBABLY" insured.

If you send me ALL of the documents you have, I will try to help you out, which will not mean your car will be recovered, but you may get your claim paid.

I will go through the documents, so send me ALL of them.

This would probably get a lot more people on the lookout for it if the subject title indicated that it is a 1978 Seville and is posted under General Discussion.

It's a Seville elegante , with its (RARE) original issue wire wheels and caps .

Have you made formal report of theft? ... you 'might' want to consult with an attorney first to avoid authorities reply of 'civil matter' ...

CadillacFlashback

Yes I have made a stolen vehicle report so the vin is in NCIC. Also continuing to peel the onion myself to track these folks down.

You might call the KY state police to see if there had been any fatal accidents involving a car hauler.

Still peeling the onion.  The person transporting my car was arrested on an unrelated issue while on their way to me (my car wasnt reported stolen at that point).  Trying to clarify through law enforcement what happened next. Possibly a little bit of hope...

I would be checking with the Police Department that performed the Arrest, as someone should have made arrangements for the safe-keeping of the property that was in the hands of the Arrestee.

Probably in a storeage compound.

I spoke to that department today but couldnt make much progress. The detective I am working with is contacting that department tomorrow to try to sort this out.

To update on this, appears I will get a happy ending.  My car was being hauled with a stolen truck and the shipper was arrested for that (and drug possession).  I have a lot of experience skip tracing so eventually I discovered the arrest record. The arresting PD had the truck & enclosed trailer on their impound lot with no idea what was inside.  Once I explained the situation to them they got a warrant from a judge to cut the locks & open the trailer.  There sat my car, seemingly unmolested from when they picked it up. Im going next week with my trailer to pick it up (which I should have done in the first place).

Fantastic. Hope the a-hole who stole it trips over a crack in the sidewalk, if you know what I mean. Nice to learn of a happy ending for a change. Clay/Lexi

I am surprised that the Police didn't open the trailer at the time of arrest, and subsequent impounding, as this would have been a mandated thing to do so that an inventory of the vehicle/s could be completed.   Heaven knows what was in the trailer with the history of the offender.

it's apparently a good day for this.

I got a call today that the police recovered my wife's stolen van--from April or may!

of course, they won't release it to anyone not on the title, I'm out of state (see overheating Fleetwood thread), and they won't have it towed to the registered address rather than an impound yard . . .

CadillacFlashback,

That is awesome! Now, what next? My '67 has a battery isolator that the former owner magically installed with a switch inside the front grill that is hardly noticeable. This helps with anti-theft but not in your case where someone just "loads it up". Any ideas moving forward????

CadillacFlashback

The Tassie-Apparently they didnt open the trailer because they are not sure if it is stolen, they only know the truck is. I, like you, would have thought they needed to know what was inside both for inventory and to see if there was anything else illegal in there, an arrest for stolen truck and drug possession seems like plenty of probable cause to me. But they did what they did.

Snibbor-Next time I have certainly learned my lesson about trusting a third-party web site to hire a shipper. Will do my own due diligence-as I said originally I was lulled to sleep by the fact I had done this successfully so many times before-never again. I may also start sending the sellers a GPS to hide in the car before the shipper comes if they will cooperate to do so.

Im just glad to get the car back-Ive never had a first gen Seville and was so excited when I bought it.
